After Googling the address sent to me by The Sorority, I knew this would be the latest instance in which the all-woman hip-hop group from Toronto would subvert stereotypes. The video was shot in a real frat house and features the ladies of The Sorority – Haviah Mighty, Keysha Freshh, Lex Leosis, and Phoenix Pagliacci – making the space their own. The team put together an empowering video with the help of their friends, bustling with artists across the spectrum. However, it became more than a video shoot. It was a safe space for the inhabitants to get to know one another, bound together solely by their connection to the rising rappers. The unwavering support culminated in a circle formed by the cast, introducing themselves one by one, sharing stories of their lives, and revealing their aspirations for the future. Similarly to the shoot itself, “SRTY” is a celebration of identity and what we make of it.
Check out the BTS photos below, followed by the video for “SRTY”.
